Robin Peeters

Erasmus MC, The Netherlands
Professor Robin Peeters is internist-endocrinologist and head of the Department of Internal Medicine at Erasmus MC in The Netherlands. He obtained his medical degree at Erasmus University Medical School in 2000 (Cum Laude). Subsequently, he combined his clinical training as internist with a PhD project that was completed in 2005 (Cum Laude). In 2009, he performed a research-fellowship with Douglas Forrest at the National Institutes of Health, USA. 
His principle research interests are the regulation of thyroid hormone bioactivity, thyroid dysfunction during pregnancy and aging, consequences of genetic variation in thyroid hormone pathway genes and thyroid cancer. 
He is a former member of the Executive Committee of the European Thyroid Association, the ETA Guideline Committee on Subclinical Hypothyroidism, and the ATA Guideline Committees on Hypothyroidism and Thyroid and Pregnancy. Currently, he is Executive Committee Member and Chair of the Clinical Committee of the of the European Society of Endocrinology and President of the Dutch Internist Society. He was awarded the ETA Harrington-de Visscher Prize in 2013, the ATA Van Meter Award in 2016, and the British Thyroid Association Pitt Rivers Award Lecture in 2018. Finally, he is member of the steering committee of EUthyroid, a pan-European initiative that aims to eliminate iodine deficiency in Europe. 
Dr. Peeters has published more than 280 peer-reviewed scientific publications, and is a member of the editorial board of several endocrine journals.
