Stine Linding Andersen, MD, PhD, DMSc, is senior resident at the Department of Clinical Biochemistry, Aalborg University Hospital, Aalborg, Denmark. She is completing her medical specialist training within the field of clinical biochemistry in 2020. In 2012, she initiated her research career, and her research mainly focuses on iodine intake and thyroid disease in pregnant women. In her PhD thesis from 2015, she evaluated urinary iodine status in Danish pregnant and breastfeeding women including methodological aspects on the determination of iodine intake in these groups. In her doctoral thesis from 2019, she evaluated various clinical aspects of thyroid disease in pregnancy using Danish nationwide health registers and blood samples from large cohorts of Danish pregnant women. Her research has substantiated a focus on overt thyroid disease in pregnant women, on the biochemical assessment of thyroid function in pregnant women, and on the risk of birth defects associated with the use of antithyroid drugs. Her publication in 2013 on the association between early pregnancy antithyroid drug exposure and birth defects was awarded the ‘Best of JCEM’. She has published more than 60 peer-reviewed papers and received awards for her research within the field of thyroid disease in pregnancy as a young scientists including the European Thyroid Association Clinical Young Investigator Prize (in 2013 and 2017) and the L’Oreal Unesco for Women in Science Prize (in 2019).
