Anne H. van der Spek completed her medical degree at the University of Amsterdam in 2012. Her interest in both research and endocrinology was first sparked during a 6 month research internship with professors Graham Williams and Duncan Bassett at Imperial College in London in 2009. After obtaining her degree, she was awarded an AMC Graduate School PhD Scholarship, a personal grant funding her PhD research on the role of intracellular thyroid hormone metabolism in innate immune cells under supervision of prof. She successfully defended her PhD thesis in 2018 and continued her postdoctoral research on thyroid hormone metabolism in innate immune cells at the Amsterdam University Medical Center in prof. Boelen’s group. She was recently awarded a Rubicon grant funding 15 months of postdoctoral research which she will be performing in prof.
