Biography
Professor Robin Peeters is internist-endocrinologist and head of the Department of Internal Medicine at Erasmus MC in The Netherlands. He obtained his medical degree at Erasmus University Medical School in 2000 (Cum Laude). Subsequently, he combined his clinical training as internist with a PhD project that was completed in 2005 (Cum Laude). In 2009, he performed a research-fellowship with Douglas Forrest at the National Institutes of Health, USA.
His principle research interests are the regulation of thyroid hormone bioactivity, thyroid dysfunction during pregnancy and aging, consequences of genetic variation in thyroid hormone pathway genes and thyroid cancer.
He is a former member of the Executive Committee of the European Thyroid Association, the ETA Guideline Committee on Subclinical Hypothyroidism, and the ATA Guideline Committees on Hypothyroidism and Thyroid and Pregnancy. Currently, he is Executive Committee Member and Chair of the Clinical Committee of the of the European Society of Endocrinology and President of the Dutch Internist Society. He was awarded the ETA Harrington-de Visscher Prize in 2013, the ATA Van Meter Award in 2016, and the British Thyroid Association Pitt Rivers Award Lecture in 2018. Finally, he is member of the steering committee of EUthyroid, a pan-European initiative that aims to eliminate iodine deficiency in Europe.
Dr. Peeters has published more than 280 peer-reviewed scientific publications, and is a member of the editorial board of several endocrine journals.

Biography
Gregory A. Brent, MD is Professor of Medicine and Physiology and Chief of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He is Chair of the Department of Medicine, VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System. He received his clinical endocrinology training at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston and completed a research fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. His research focus is on studies on the molecular mechanisms of thyroid hormone action in metabolic regulation and neural differentiation, and the regulation of iodine transport in hormone-dependent cancers. He has conducted clinical research in thyroid disease in pregnancy and in chronic kidney disease patients. He is an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and Association of American Physicians. He is past chair of the National Institutes of Health, Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology Study Section and the Endocrine Merit Review Board for the Department of Veterans Affairs. He has been on the editorial boards of Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Molecular Endocrinology, Thyroid and Endocrinology. He is past Secretary/Chief Operating Officer and past President of the American Thyroid Association. He has been recognized with the American Thyroid Association Van Meter, Braverman, Ingbar, and Distinguished Service Awards, and the Endocrine Society Knoll Mentor Award.

Biography
He obtained his internal medicine speciality, endocrinology and methabolism subspeciality and nuclear medicine speciality from Tufts University. Boston USA and passed three American Boards of Internal Medicine, Endocrinology and Metabolism, and Nuclear Medicine. He was appointed as Chief of Endocrinology and acting-chief of Nuclear Medicine at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital of Boston, Tufts Medical School from 1974 until 1979. He is now a distinguished professor of endocrinology of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Iran.
Professor Azizi’s research contributions have been in various fields of endocrinology and metabolism, in particular the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis. He directed IDD programs to ensure sustained elimination of iodine deficiency in the last 30 years in Iran. He is also the PI of the national research project of Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study.
Professor Azizi is the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism. He has 1858 publications including 1020 peer reviewed international and 700 Farsi papers in Iranian medical journals and 30 full text or chapters in scientific books. He is an invited reviewer for more than 26 scientific medical journals. He received six awards from Presidents of I.R. Iran for “Distinguished Professor” and “Research Excellence” in 1992, 1994, 1997, 2002, 2008 and 2012; also State of Kwait Prize for excellence in diabetes in Eastern Mediterranean Region in 2007 and Nagataki Prize from Asia-Oceania Congress of Endocrinology in 2009. He was selected, as Distinguished Scienctist of the Year by Iranian Academy of Medical Sciences in 2011.

Biography
Dr. Maia is currently a Full Professor of Medicine (UFRGS) and chief of the Thyroid Unit, HCPA. She is interested in basic and clinical aspects of thyroid hormone physiology, particularly on the role of deiodinases in human diseases. She implemented the genetic diagnosis of Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type 2 at her Institution, thenceforth considered as a reference Center to diagnostic and treatment of medullary thyroid carcinoma in South America. She also coordinates several studies on the molecular and clinical aspects of differentiated thyroid carcinomas. Dr. Maia has published over 150 original papers and reviews in peer-reviewed top-ranked journals. Among the numerous awards received including - Young Investigator Award Prof. Thales Martins, LATS-Young Investigator Prize and Fogarty International Research Collaboration Award (FIRCA). She has also been awarded grants from national and international (NIH) agencies. She is a research investigator (1995- ) and has recently served as an-elected member and Coordinator of the Advisory Committee on Medicine (2012-15) on the Brazilian National Research Council (CNPq), .Dr. Maia is currently the President of the Latin American Thyroid Society (LATS), which has served several times as an elected-member of the Executive and Scientific Committee. She is also a member of American Thyroid Association (ATA) and Endocrine Society, where she has served as a member of the Task Forces and Committees.
